Amazing Post!
I have worked with tons of designers from different parts of the world. The one thing I have learned is to let them do their job... why?
Because this is what they do 24/7, and No, googling 'color psychology' and 'web 2.0' does not make you more qualified than your designer.

P.S It is also true that great and passionate web designers are hard to find :)
